The Latin name is from the Greek symphis, which means, “growing together of bones” or “knit together.” Comfrey dates back as far as 50 AD. It used for fertilizer, fodder for animals to treating a wide variety of ailments ranging from broken bones, sprains, arthritis, burns, acne, cuts, bruises, sores, eczema, varicose veins and other skin conditions.
